John Howard today announced that a Coalition government would spend an extra $4 billion on pensioners.
Howard made the pledge during a visit to Morphett Vale Memorial Bowling Club, in the very marginal Adelaide seat of Kingston.
The $4 billion would be used to raise the pension utility allowance from $107.20 a year to $500 a year, and open it to more than 120,000 receivers of the carer payment, and 700,000 that receive disability support pensions.

The announcement came after a troublesome morning for the PM, who was again abused by a passer-by on his daily walk.
"Bloody arsehole!" a middle-aged man yelled at the PM as he strolled past this morning.
Howard was yesterday called a "disgrace" as he walked through Canberra.
