Kevin Rudd has made his final big pitch to voters with a televised address at the National Press Club in Canberra. Mr Rudd reiterated (and reiterating) his promised "plan for the future of Australia", and his offer of “new leadership”.
Rudd summed up his campaign saying: "Saturday will decide whether Australia gets stuck in the world's slow lane, letting other nations pass us by, or whether Australia decides to shift up a gear so that we can properly realise our true potential as a nation."
Predictably, the Labor leader predicted a close result on Saturday. "Whoever wins this election on Saturday will win by a nose," he said. "This is tough, ugly and nasty. There will be trench warfare between now and Saturday."
