John Howard dropped by his own marginal seat of Bennelong today, attempting to win back the support of the Chinese-Australians that have been so wooed by his Mandarin speaking opponent, Kevin Rudd.

Howard shook hands with locals in the local Carlingford Village shopping strip, before stopping by Eastwood Public School for Chinese languauge class awards. He used the visit to sing the Chinese-Australian community's praises.

“Chinese-Australians have made an enormous contribution to Australian society,” he said. “Their energy, their work ethic, their commitment to small business and their commitment to the central role of the family are qualities that I personally admire enormously.”
