The head of World Vision Australia and the brother of Peter, Tim Costello, has called for the Government to match Labor's pledge on foreign aid. The ALP have announced that 0.5% of gross national income would be spent on international aid under a Rudd Government.
But John Howard told Sky News this morning that such a promise was meaningless. "If we can increase it we will do so, but to promise something way out to 2015, which is eight years ago (sic) is easy to do because you can't really be held accountable for it," he said.
